Using the Refuel and Startup Rule in Surveyor

NOTE 1: Do not use this Rule unless you want to disable the refueling abilities of the locomotives.

NOTE 2: For this method to work you must have the latest version of the locomotives. If you have the single package download or if your locomotives were purchased before 10/17/2004 then you do not have the latest locomotives.

In this tutorial you will learn how to enable and customize a rule called "Refuel and Startup Rule" to a session in surveyor.

You can download the rule here

1. Adding the rule

After you have started the "Surveyor" module select the "Surveyor Menu" and then select "Edit Session" from the drop down menu as shown in figure 1. You will then be presented with the "Edit Session" window as shown in figure 2. Select the "Add" button.

A new window will appear called the "Rules" window. Scroll down until you see the entry "Refuel and Startup Rule". Select the rule and click on the green tick.

2. Customizing the rule

After the rule has been added then we need to customize the rule. Select the rule and click on the "Edit" button. The properties of the rule window will appear. Click on the "Refuel Setting" line and select the refuel state. Selecting "None" will disable that part of the rule. "Refuel, Resand and Restart" will set the fuel and sand level to the maximum level and then start the locomotive. This setting is useful if you want to basically disable the refueling features of the locomotive. "Refuel and Resand" will set the fuel and sand levels to the maximum but will not start the locomotives. This setting is useful if you want to disable the refueling features but still want the startup and shutdown features. "Refuel Only" affects the fuel of the locomotives only.

Once you have set the refuel state then you need to specify a range for the running numbers. Click on the "Running Number Lower Limit" to set the lowest possible running number that you want and "Running Number Upper Limit" to set the maximum number.

NOTE If you set the range to a value that is less than the actual number of locomotives in the layout then all locomotives will appear with "1000" their running number. Always ensure there are more available running numbers than there are locomotives.

Once you have all the settings complete then you can click on the green "Ticks" and switch to driver to see the results. The running number section will affect all locomotives in the layout without a running number whereas the refueling section will only affect the refueling locomotives.
