Replacing default trucks

In this tutorial you will learn how to replace the default bogeys with custom trucks. Images are from UltraEdit using a custom text highlighter

1. Finding the truck names

In the CCG is a complete listing of names for the built in bogeys/trucks. In this example the built in bogey that we are replacing is the flatcar_bogey [PS]. The [PS] means it is a Paint Shed asset. However in the KUID browser the [PS] will not show up.

2. Opening the config.txt file

Once you have downloaded and installed the trucks that you want to use you need to open the config.txt file in CCP. For this example we will be editing the config.txt of my 36inch 2 Axle Truck kuid number 86105:50003. Right click and select Open in Content Creator Plus. CCP will ask if you want to update the asset to TRS2006 standards. Click yes. CCP will also report that a compulsory tag is missing and that it has been added automatically. Ignore this error it is another anomoly of CCP..

3. Replacement using the obsolete table

The easiest way to replace the trucks on all the rolling stock is to add the name of the trucks we want to replace to the obsolete-table. As you can see in figure 1 these bogeys already have an obsolete-table and there is already some entries in the table. This is from the pre TRS standards when the only way to update the older version of an object was to give the new version a new kuid number and add the old version to the obsolete-table in the new version. Most objects on the DLS will have an obsolete-table similar to figure 2 or they will not have one at all in which case you will need to add an obsolete-table container into the tree view.

To obsolete the default trucks with the name flatcar_bogey you need to add the line shown in figure 3. This will cause any rolling stock object that uses the flatcar_bogey to instead use the 86105:50003 trucks. If the obsolete table already contains one or more entries then you will need to add a new line with its own number for each additional kuid you want to obsolete.

4. Alternate method

Another method of changing the trucks is to open each rolling stocks config.txt file and edit the bogey entry contained within. Figure 4 shows a typical rolling stock item with the 86105:50003 trucks. In this example there are four bogey entries. The first two refer to the actual trucks/bogeys and the second two entries refer to couplers. If you change all the entries or the incorrect entries then you will end up with trucks appearing where they should not appear. Some rolling stock will only have one bogey entry and others may have two or more.

5. Committing changes

Once you have made the changes to the config.txt file save and close the CCP. Before starting TRS2006 ensure you commit changes to any of the assets that you have modified.
